Elaine Veltri Creative Writing & Design

Greenville, SC writer Elaine Veltri began her writing career more than three decades ago in a busy newsroom in Myrtle Beach, SC. During her 21 years as a print journalist for a daily newspaper, Elaine covered nearly every beat. She once served as the police and courts reporter, and subsequently covered health, religion, seniors, home and garden, and city government. During her first week on the job as a police and courts reporter, Elaine was covering a court case when a defendant grabbed a gun from a sheriff deputy and shot his way out of the courthouse. Determined to document the events unfolding before her, Elaine hid behind pillars, bushes and cars, committing everything she saw to memory, as she followed the criminal through the courtyard and into the street. The criminal fired on law enforcement agents before hijacking a car and fleeing. The reporter wrote a first-person account of the event for the newspaper, and was awarded a First Place in Spot News from the S.C. Press Association.

When newspapers began to feel the weight of a failing economy in 2008, Elaine left the newspaper industry to serve as a grants writer for a municipality, where she produced newsletters, financial reports, annual reports and press releases. Missing her passion for creative writing, the former journalist accepted a position with EnVeritas Group (EVG), where she rewrote hundreds of websites for Radisson Hotel Group, including Country Inn & Suites, Park Inns and Radisson Blu hotels, and was trained in Search Engine Optimization, HTML, and website programming and management. While working as a writer and editor at EVG, Elaine also produced blogs for the company’s website.

Elaine left her FT position at EVG to become a freelance writer/editor/blogger, which has allowed her to produce content for other companies, including an online health magazine, a monthly glossy Neighbors print magazine, and several digital companies in Greenville, SC and beyond. She also owns Thee Lamppost, a personal blog that focuses on faith, family, fellowship and fortitude.
